Skip the How Might We’s — Turning Insights into Action

I used to think that my role as a researcher was to conduct the study and share the facts, and that anything more than that was overstepping. As I’ve gained experience, I’ve since learned that the role of a researcher is much more involved than that — our role is not only to capture the insights from the studies, but to turn them into action. I’ll share some tips and lessons learned about developing recommendations that transform your insights into actionable next steps and techniques for socializing your point of view to bring your stakeholders along.

Kendall Avery  (HCDE BS ’16) leads the Rider & Maps UX Research teams at Uber, where she manages a global team focused on enhancing user experiences that help us reimagine the way the world moves, for the better. Prior to managing the team, Kendall led several foundational research efforts at Uber, including the comprehensive redesign of the Rider app. Prior to Uber, Kendall worked as a UX researcher and Product Manager at SAP Concur, solving problems for enterprise customers and end users through travel and expense solutions. A graduate of the University of Washington's Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) program in 2016, Kendall brings a holistic approach to UX research, blending academic knowledge with real-world experience. Outside of work she spends her time traveling, attending live music shows, and cuddling with her two cats Finch & Pipit.

The UX Speaker Series is hosted Thursdays in Winter Quarter by the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. Presentations are open to the public.

Depending on the speaker's preference, a recording will be posted to this webpage after the event. View the full schedule at hcde.uw.edu/ux.
