September 15, 2020

HCDE PhD candidate Rafal Kocielnik and incoming postdoctoral researcher Abigale Stangl have received Computing Innovation Fellowships from the Computing Research Association and its Computing Community Consortium.

As a result of disruption to PhD hiring cycle during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Computing Research Association and its Computing Community Consortium, with support from the National Science Foundation, launched the CIFellows 2020 program to connect recent (or soon-to-be) PhD graduates in computing disciplines with postdoctoral research positions at other academic institutions.

Rafal Kocielnik, a PhD candidate in HCDE, will be completing his fellowship at the California Institute of Technology with mentor Anima Anandkumar, Professor of Computing + Mathematical Sciences and a director of machine learning research at NVIDIA.

Abigale Stangl is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Texas at Austin, and will be joining HCDE as a postdoctoral researcher in January 2021. Her mentor in HCDE will be Associate Professor Leah Findlater, director of the Inclusive Design Lab.
